Hutchinson Community College’s Public Safety Department strives to make your education challenging, rewarding and meaningful. Each element of the department works closely together to provide cross-curricular integration to expose and train our future firefighters, dispatchers, police and safety officers, and emergency medical personnel to all aspects of the public service profession.
You will learn in a hands-on approach that focuses on clinical and occupational experiences with actual equipment and taught by active members of the profession. You will learn from the men and women in the trenches and on the line every day, who want to share their real-life experiences to make you better prepared for your future in serving the public. Our programs are also some of the largest and well-respected in the state, and our students are in high demand throughout the country.
We have state-of-the-art equipment, including a fully-functional dispatch center that serves as the backup 911 system for 19 counties in the state of Kansas. We also provide field experiences and internships ranging from complete disaster simulation Field-Ops days to working over the summer with the elite Hot Shot wildfire crews and much, much more.
