Library Resources & Services

Library services remain available to staff and students despite COVID-19.

However, we encourage you to take advantage of our virtual services:

  • Email reference questions to jfk@hutchcc.edu.
  • Use the HutchCC Student and Staff Portal (via DragonZone) link below to access our online catalog, eBooks, and research databases.
  • Place holds on items, which means that staff will retrieve the items for you and alert you when they are ready to be picked up at the circulation desk.

Resources

John F. Kennedy Library houses over 44,000 books and audio-visual resources, with thousands more resources available electronically. These materials can be accessed using the links below:

  • HutchCC Student and Staff Portal (via DragonZone):
    Students, faculty, and staff have access to more options and features when searching for items, such as placing holds, creating lists, and managing their library account. After logging in to DragonZone, go to the Resources tab and select Library Services.
  • Online Databases and Descriptions:
    JFK Library subscribes to many online databases to support student research. If you are on campus, you may use this link to get to the databases quickly. If you are off-campus, please use the HutchCC Student and Staff Portal link to access the databases.
  • Open Resource Links:
    These open educational resources are freely available on the Internet. We are continually adding new resources, so keep checking back!
     
  • 1920s Research Project Resources:
    Students working on 1920s research projects will find a listing of available materials and their location in the library.

Computer Lab: This open lab has fifteen computers, a print release station, and a photocopier/scanner. All computers are equipped with multiple browsers, Microsoft Office Suite, Acrobat Reader, and several math assistance programs and can be used for internet browsing, research, and course work.

Study Spaces: From a community area to group study tables, to individual desks, JFK Library has a space that fits your study needs.

Research Assistance: All library staff has been trained to help you find the information you need for high-quality research papers, speeches, and other projects. Find us at the circulation desk!

Services

Circulation Policies

  • A formal photo identification is required for checkout.
  • Check-out periods vary:
    • Books: 3 weeks
    • DVDs, CDs, and VHS: 1 week
    • Reserve Items: Decided by the instructor, but most common check-out times are 2 hours, 1 day, and 1 week.
  • Periodicals are for in-house use only.  Reference videos may only be checked out by HutchCC faculty and staff.
  • A one-time renewal per item is available by phone or in person.

Photocopy & Fax Services

  • Copies are free for students.
  • Copies for our community members are .10 cents per page.
  • Sending a fax is $1.00 per page.

Interlibrary Loan

If you cannot find the material you need at JFK Library, but another library carries it, you can ask for it to be sent to JFK Library through interlibrary loan. This process typically takes 7 to 10 days.  There is no charge unless the lending library charges JFK Library.
