Apply & Enroll at HutchCC

Whether you’re a first-time student at Hutchinson Community College or you’ve taken classes with us before, preparing for college can be challenging, even confusing at times. That’s why we created this handy list of enrollment steps. It will guide you through applying online, help you track your progress as you go, and make sure you don’t miss anything.

To get started, choose the type of student you will be and follow the enrollment checklist.

First Time Regular Student

  • I will attend HutchCC after I graduate from high school (or earn my GED).
  • I want to seek a degree at HutchCC.
  • Only degree seeking students are financial aid eligible at HutchCC.
  • I have never attended HutchCC before.

Transfer Student

  • I will attend HutchCC after transferring from another college.
  • I want to seek a degree at HutchCC.
  • Only degree seeking students are financial aid eligible at HutchCC.

High School

  • I am a current high school student wanting to take college classes at HutchCC, while in High School.

Guest Student

  • I will attend HutchCC just to take some courses.
  • I am over the age of 18 and not seeking a degree.
  • I will not be using any federal financial aid.
  • I am a student at another college planning to take one or two classes from HutchCC.

Returning Student

  • I have already attended HutchCC in the past.

International Student

  • I am a student from outside the United States wanting to attend HutchCC.
  • I am currently an international student at another college in the United States.

With the rising costs of higher education, affordability is always a concern for parents and students. Hutchinson Community College's Step Ahead program can help you get a head start on quality education at one of the premier colleges in Kansas.

Take some classes from HutchCC while you're attending a Kansas high school. After you graduate, enroll and attend full-time at HutchCC for your freshman year and we will reimburse you the cost you have spent on tuition. It's as easy as that!

Step Ahead

Student Requirements

  • College credit must be a letter grade and students must have earned a grade of C or higher or a P in a pass/fail class.
  • Day or evening, on-campus, off-campus, Online, ITV, or internet classes taken during the fall, spring, or summer semesters prior to high school graduation are eligible for reimbursement.
  • The tuition reimbursement is granted to students who enroll and attend full-time in the fall or spring semesters following high school graduation. Official High School transcript (with graduation date posted) required.
  • HutchCC must be the only institution attended after high school graduation.
  • Graduated High School Seniors, attending only HutchCC summer classes, are not eligible for the program.
  • Be a Kansas resident
  • Reimbursement will cover only the tuition paid for by the student.

Concurrent Enrollment Process(CEP)

Concurrent enrollment partnership student means a person who enrolled in classes at a high school at which approved high school teachers teach college credit classes during the normal school day. He/she is also in either of grades 10,11 or 12 or who is gifted and is acceptable or has been accepted for enrollment at an eligible postsecondary educational institution.

Concurrently enrolled students must meet institutional enrollment requirements, follow institutional procedures regarding assessment/placement, and satisfy course prerequisites.  The CEP policy offers more information about student eligibility.

Student Step By Step Process

  • 1. Select a Class

    If you are interested in taking courses offered for college credit while in high school, please see your High School Counselor. To access offerings on the HutchCC campus, please go to the course schedule by following the link below.

  • 2. Apply for Admission

    The admissions application is an easy online step to getting your foot into the door at HutchCC. If you prefer, you can also request a paper application or come by admissions and we will help you fill it out.

  • 3. Placement Testing

    To enroll in college credit courses, high school students must have qualifying ACT or HutchCC assessment scores. For the next steps, contact your High School Counselor or the HutchCC admissions office.
