Bands

Bands

The Bands at HutchCC are extremely active and provide students a variety of opportunities both on and off campus. The HutchCC Symphonic Band rehearses three times per week and performs at least twice a semester with at least one off-campus performance. Separate from the Symphonic Band, the Pep Band performs at home games for the Blue Dragon Football and Basketball teams.

Instrumental Jazz

The Jazz has had a long and distinguished history at HutchCC.  Bryce Luty was instrumental in developing a premier area of study that is well-known throughout the state of Kansas – and beyond.  There are three Jazz ensembles that actively perform on campus and in the community.  HutchCC also hosts the Bryce Luty Jazz Festival, which draws High School Jazz bands from all over the state and features a renowned Jazz musician during the final concert.

Choral Music & Vocal Jazz

Choral Music & Vocal Jazz

The HutchCC Choral Music area of study challenges student-musicians through the performance of quality choral literature while the Vocal Jazz area of study is recognized nationally and even internationally!  The students and ensembles within Vocal Jazz have won numerous DownBeat awards, have performed on the international conference of the Jazz Educators Network, and have given eight performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

We believe that Choral Music and Vocal Jazz is not just part of the human experience – it is an essential part.  To understand music is to know an entire range of human expression and to be able to perform music means participating in that communication.  Like writing and mathematics, music represents a special a special form of literacy with its own repertoire of emotional and intellectual content.  The art of Music illuminates our culture and connects us with our humanity.  It is no wonder that the understanding of music and the ability to perform it have long been regarded as a mark of a well-educated individual.  Music is an essential part of the human experience!v
