Visual Arts

The Bands at HutchCC are extremely active and provide students a variety of opportunities both on and off campus. The HutchCC Symphonic Band rehearses three times per week and performs at least twice a semester with at least one off-campus performance. Separate from the Symphonic Band, the Pep Band performs at home games for the Blue Dragon Football and Basketball teams.

Deidre Mattox: Theatre Director

Deidre Mattox: Theatre Director

Deidre Mattox is the HutchCC Director of Theatre and Academic Advisor for students majoring in Theatre Performance, Technical Theatre, Theatre Education, Music Theatre, and Speech Communication. Deidre holds degrees in Theatre from Kansas State University where she was the recipient of both the Joel Climenhaga and Jerome Johanning Awards for Excellence in Playwriting. She is also a founding member of Stage 9 Community Theatre in Hutchinson, Kansas, having served on the board of the Hutchinson Theatre Guild for six years. Currently, Deidre serves as the the Vice-Chair of the National Playwriting Program for Region 5 of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

Shane Dawson: Production Manager

Shane Dawson: Production Manager

Shane Dawson has worked in theatre both on stage and behind the scenes in several schools and community groups for the last decade. Areas of teaching include Stagecraft, Theatre Practicum, and Lighting design for the stage and screen. Shane spent a few years as a member of the Society of American Fight Directors learning stage combat. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, reading, and sword fighting with his daughter.

Delta Psi Omega

Delta Psi Omega is a national theatre honor society and professional organization organized for the purpose of providing acknowledgement to those demonstrating a high standard of accomplishment in theatre and, through the expansion of Delta Psi Omega among two-year colleges and universities, providing a wider fellowship for those interested in theatre.

Membership in this society of college dramatics is conferred upon students who demonstrate superior work ethic, dedication, and devotion to the theatre arts at Hutchinson Community College. Students are eligible for induction into the HutchCC chapter of DPO after successful completion of at least one major cast or crew position or two smaller cast or crew positions. Additionally, as DPO is a service organization, new inductees must have participated in at least one community service activity with HutchCC Theatre prior to induction.

Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available each year to students who enroll in theatre courses and agree to participate in HutchCC Theatre main stage productions either as performers or technical crew members. Scholarships are available to both theatre majors and theatre participants.
