Applying for Aid

Paying for college can be challenging. At HutchCC, we believe that students and their families should receive the help they need to pay for college. Some or all of your tuition, housing and meals, and fees may be covered by financial aid. You may also receive additional aid to cover books, transportation, and other costs.

Steps to Apply

  • 1. Apply for Admissions

In order for the FAFSA to be processed at Hutchinson Community College the students must have an admissions application on file.

    Apply & Enroll
  • 2. Complete FAFSA

To apply for financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The FAFSA can be filed electronically through the FAFSA website at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa . When completing the application, you must list Hutchinson Community College school code 001923 for your application to be forwarded to us.

If this is the first time you are filing for financial aid, you will need to request a FSA ID so you can sign your FAFSA electronically. You can apply for your FSA ID electronically at www.fsaid.ed.gov. Once you have established your FSA ID, keep it in a secure place as you will need this ID every year to complete your application electronically.

  • 3. Notification of FAFSA Processed

Once you have completed your FAFSA, you will receive notification from the U.S. Department of Education saying that your application has been processed. If you filed your FAFSA electronically, you should receive an e-mail notification within 72 hours.

  • 4. Verification

Applicants selected for verification may be required to submit documentation to the Hutchinson Community College Financial Aid Office in support of the data supplied on the FAFSA. The financial aid office will notify selected applicants of the documentation needed to complete the verification process.

    • Verification Explained

Verification is the process of checking the accuracy of the information supplied by financial aid applicants on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The guidelines used for verification are those published annually in the U.S. Department of Education's Verification Guide.

Federal Student aid programs affected by verification

      • Pell Grant Program
      • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program
      • Federal Work-Study Program
      • Federal Stafford Loan Program

      Verification Process

Applicants selected for verification may be required to submit documentation to the Hutchinson Community College Financial Aid Office in support of the data supplied on the FAFSA. The financial aid office will notify selected applicants of the documentation needed to complete the verification process.  Once you complete verification is should take about 1 week to process,  during high volume times there could be a longer wait to process.

      Aid Distributed After Verification

If an application is selected for verification aid will not be disbursed from any of the aforementioned programs until the verification process has been completed.

      Applicant Correction and Notification Procedures

Corrections to FAFSA data, resulting from verification, will be electronically submitted to the Central Processor (CPS) by the financial aid office.
