Welding Technology - CERT B
A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.
Careers
Most welders work in manufacturing industries that produce transportation equipment, industrial machinery and equipment, and fabricated metal products. Welders are also employed in the construction of buildings and bridges, and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants and refineries.
Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate the safe, effective and efficient set up of welding and cutting process to meet industry standards.
- Demonstrate work ethics including collaboration and communication skills.
- Produce and evaluate quality welds/cuts to meet or exceed industry standards.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints/welding symbols.
- Demonstrate the accurate application of layout tools, mathematics, and measuring devices to complete assignments.
- Choose and apply appropriate manufacturing processes in the completion of projects.
- Relate theory-based welding principles to industry-based welding.
