A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical imaging services to patients and attending health care professionals. Includes instruction in applied anatomy and physiology, patient positioning, radiographic technique, radiation biology, safety and emergency procedures, equipment operation and maintenance, quality assurance, patient education, and medical imaging/radiologic services management.
Radiologic Technology is a science which requires the Registered Radiologic Technologist or RT to use various medical diagnostic equipment to create images of patients bodies which help doctors diagnose and treat injuries and disease. The RT utilizes a combination of technical knowledge, knowledge of anatomy, radiation protection methods and human compassion to safely create quality medical images. “Diagnostic Radiography” includes a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures which use x-rays, a form of radiation energy, to create a medical image. An RT registered in Diagnostic Radiography or RT(R) performs procedures that create static and dynamic images of bones, soft tissue organs and the vascular system. RTs are employed by hospitals, medical clinics, mobile imaging services, government agencies and commercial sales organizations. RTs can expand their opportunities by specializing in other imaging disciplines beyond Diagnostic Radiography, including computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, sonography, radiation therapy or with advanced education a career as a radiologist assistant.

The Hutchinson Community College (HutchCC) articulation agreement with Friends University requires that students who have no credits from other schools complete at least 64 credits of coursework from Friends University (a four-year institution) and at least 60 credits from Hutchinson Community College (a two-year institution), for a total of 124 credits. With these credits, you will earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology.
As per the articulation agreement, some HutchCC radiology program application criteria may be waived for students completing the required 64 credits of coursework from Friends University prior to application to the HutchCC radiology program.
The Radiology Student Handbook is a document used to inform current and future HutchCC radiology students of our program policies and procedures. Program faculty and the program Director work together to update the handbook yearly. Students accepted into the radiology program will be provided with the most recent version.
