The Campus Safety Intern Program aims to enhance the safety and welfare of the campus community and provide students with employment on campus. The student will be given the basis of a solid foundation in a work environment. The students who take advantage of this opportunity will be taught Campus Safety procedures and receive practical experience that helps create a safer environment at HutchCC.

Some of the functions performed by Campus Safety Interns are:

• Patrolling campus and reporting hazards to Campus Safety personnel
• Responding to alarms and taking charge or assisting as needed
• Providing directions and other assistance to campus visitors and students
• Safety escorts for students, staff, and visitors
• Locking and unlocking of campus facilities, when needed
• Public requests for vehicle service: jump starting, tire inflating, lockouts
• Parking enforcement
• Promoting a safe environment by being out in the public eye

Safety Interns are HutchCC students, in good academic standing, who work for the department as student employees. With supervision by a Campus Safety employee, Safety Interns work in pairs to patrol the campus grounds.

Applicant qualifications / Conditions of Employment:

1. Must be an active degree seeking student at HutchCC
2. Must pass a background check
3. Must maintain G.P.A. of 2.0
4. Must be mature, have a neat appearance, and the ability to meet and deal professionally with the public.
5. The ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff, and the community.
6. Be of good moral character and have a desire to serve the community.
7. Must be willing to work primarily evening shifts, possibly nights and weekends.

The Safety Intern job pays $10 an hour, up to 12 hours a week.
