Computer Support Specialist - CERT A

A program that prepares individuals to provide technical assistance, support, and advice to computer users to help troubleshoot software and hardware problems. Includes instruction in computer concepts, information systems, networking, operating systems, security, cloud computing, computer hardware, the Internet, software applications, help desk concepts and problem solving, and principles of customer service.

Virtually every business and industry needs computer support specialists to provide technical assistance and advice regarding hardware, software, systems and security. Computer support specialists resolve problems for computer users; install, maintain and update hardware and software; and maintain and secure systems and networks.

Institution Wide Outcomes

Hutchinson Community College is committed to a tradition of excellence in education that prepares students for success in academics, careers, and life. To achieve this goal, HutchCC has established five Institution-Wide Outcomes (IWO) that are embedded into all academic courses. These outcomes are designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

  1. Demonstrate the ability to think critically and make reasonable judgments by analyzing, combining, and evaluating information.
  2. Demonstrate the skills necessary to access and manipulate information through various methods.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  4. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  5. Demonstrate effective quantitative-reasoning and computational skills.

Program Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate professional attitude and work ethic including collaboration and communication skills.
  2. Evaluate current operating systems, application programs, hardware, networking, security and troubleshooting techniques.
  3. Develop and apply specialized computer technology skills, in a hands-on industry setting.
  4. Distinguish and appropriately apply industry terminology and standards in computer technology.
  5. Research and obtain appropriate information, evaluate alternative solutions and make decisions as applied to computer technology.
