Welding Technology - CERT C

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards. Students successfully completing the following classes will have the opportunity to participate in Welder Qualification Testing as outlined by applicable codes from the American Welding Society (AWS) or American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The listed testing is the minimum requirement for the classes. Through completion, it will enable students in those classes to demonstrate their ability to perform industry-standard welding procedures specifications commonly used in the welding industry. Certificate A: WE104 Shielded Metal Arc Welding - 1F, 2F, 1G, 2G; WE 110 Gas Metal Arc Welding - 1F, 2F, 1G, 2G; WE112 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding - 1G, 2G. Certificate B: WE105 Shielded Metal Arc Welding II - 3G; WE111 Gas Metal Arc Welding II - 3G; WE116 Flux Cored Arc Welding - 3G. Certificate C/AAS: WE217 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding III - 3G Plate, 2G, 5G, 6G Pipe; WE218 Shielded Metal Arc Welding III - 2G, 5G, 6G Pipe.

Careers

Most welders work in manufacturing industries that produce transportation equipment, industrial machinery and equipment, and fabricated metal products. Welders are also employed in the construction of buildings and bridges, and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants and refineries.

Program Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the safe, effective and efficient set up of welding and cutting process to meet industry standards.
  2. Demonstrate work ethics including collaboration and communication skills.
  3. Produce and evaluate quality welds/cuts to meet or exceed industry standards.
  4. Read and accurately interpret blueprints/welding symbols.
  5. Demonstrate the accurate application of layout tools, mathematics, and measuring devices to complete assignments.
  6. Choose and apply appropriate manufacturing processes in the completion of projects.
  7. Relate theory-based welding principles to industry-based welding.
