Media and Film Production - CERT A

This curriculum is designed to provide students with background training and experience for entering the field of broadcast and media technology in a variety of entry level production positions in broadcasting.

Careers

Media specialists develop concepts through the planning and pre-production stages into production, editing, and post-production phases. Opportunities exist in both studio and field environments. New content delivery technologies are providing continuing opportunities in film and video editing.

Program Outcomes

  1. Recognize and apply--either individually or collaboratively--the three phases of production (pre, prod, post) in how to guide projects from conception to completion.
  2. Plan, implement, and manage the aesthetic and technical elements of TV studio and video field production with professional direction, effective communication and problem solving skills, and knowledgeable operation of Professional Video and Audio equipment
  3. Swap studio or field production roles, including producer, director, coordinator, camera op, gaffer, switcher op, grip, or audio; and develop the ability to self-train in a rapidly changing field.
  4. Develop and Edit video and audio projects to achieve scripted objectives by controlling content, pace, mood, transitions, montage, and effects; hold various post-production roles, including assistant editor, editor, or post-production coordinator.
  5. Apply ethical values that guide media practices and professional standards and understand legal concepts specific to creative Intellectual Property practices based on case law, administrative law, and landmark Supreme Court Cases.
  6. Develop an online portfolio of video/audio projects that demonstrates creativity and technical proficiency for prospective employment.
