Public Health & Safety

The Public Health and Safety Department of Hutchinson Community College operates the Training Centers for American Heart Association (AHA) and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). The HCC-AHA training center has seven experienced training center faculty members and supports more than 100 instructors across the region.

Additionally, the department offers instruction in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Community-Workplace CPR, Basic First Aid, and BLS Instructor Training. Announcing Basic Life Support Class

  • Who can attend: BLS class if for the experienced health care provider or related professions.

Community CPR and First Aid for Adults, Children, Infants 

  • Who: Excellent for business and industry also for childcare providers or caregivers 

Basic First Aid and CPR/AED
Designed for organizations, that require or desire OSHA-approved training in basic first aid and CPR/AED. The program develops knowledge and skills to respond appropriately to emergencies with confidence.

Basic First Aid
Intended for individuals with little or no medical training, but desire or are required to be certified in basic emergency care. Excellent choice for the community and workplace setting.

Community CPR/AED
Intended for individuals with little or no medical training, but desire or are required to be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) emergency care. Excellent choice for the community and workplace setting.

Bloodborne Pathogens
Designed for organizations and individuals who desire or require OSHA-approved training about bloodborne pathogens.

Basic Life Support / Health Care Provider
Healthcare professionals or professional rescuers are required to recognize and respond to a life-threatening emergency. This course provides knowledge on how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of settings. This course includes a written exam and a skills demonstration. Successful completion of all components earns the student a 2-year certification.

BLS Instructor Training
Designed for individuals who want to become qualified instructors specializing in emergency basic first aid care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Designed for organizations or individuals who are required to have the advanced elements of cardiac care. ACLS builds on BLS skills and team dynamics. Early recognition and advanced interventions for cardiac arrest are included in this course.
