Pharmacy Technician - CERT B

This program prepares students to work as staff members in pharmacies under the direction of licensed pharmacists where they perform many pharmacy related tasks. Students learn about pharmacology through an overview of drug classifications, common drug side effects and drug use/abuse. The program is designed as an online program. It includes practical learning experience in community and hospital settings.

Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and perform many pharmacy related functions. Duties may include: preparing prescriptions, counting pills, extemporaneous compounding and preparing parenteral medications. Pharmacy technicians work in a wide variety of practice settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, home healthcare, mail order and longterm care facilities. It is critical for candidates to be detail-oriented and understand the importance of accuracy since dispensing pharmaceuticals impact a person’s life. Technicians work the same hours that a pharmacy is open. This may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly in facilities such as hospitals and retail pharmacies.
