Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

Join us next tax season - January 2009

Each year, volunteers are trained by IRS personnel to provide assistance with preparation of basic tax returns for low and moderate income taxpayers.  We are very proud of our 24 VITA Volunteers. The Out of 120 free tax preparation sites in the state of Kansas, the Hutchinson VITA Site managed by The Volunteer Center of Reno County and Reno County RSVP was sixth in total returns prepared.

Statistics from the Hutchinson VITA service are as follows:

  • The Average Adjusted Gross Income of those receiving assistance in preparation of their returns  was $14,147
     

  • 1,373 Federal returns
    1,401 State of Kansas returns
        751 Homestead Tax Rebatereturns
    3,525 Returns prepared & submitted
     

  • 237 taxpayers received a cumulative total of $217,628 in Earned Income Tax Credits.
      46 taxpayers received a cumulative total of $61,791.00 in Child Tax Credits.


VITA in Reno County is administered by Hutchinson Community College's RSVP Program.  The program is a collaborative effort with the IRS, and the Salvation Army.  A special thank you to the Wheatbelt Area Chapter of Credit Unions for providing assistance with VITA program this year.
