Dave Brown joins the Hutchinson
Community College men’s basketball coaching staff this season with a
wealth of knowledge about the Jayhawk Conference. Known as a
top-notch recruiter for both instate and out-of-state players, Brown
has coached in the Jayhawk Conference for 15 years.
Brown was the head coach at Seward
County Community College for 11 seasons, guiding the Saints to
Jayhawk Conference Western Division titles in 1998 and 2002 and four
other league runner-up finishes. Brown led the 1998 Saints to a
Region VI championship and a third-place finish in the NJCAA
Tournament.
He was named Jayhawk West coach of
the year three times (1998, 2002 and 2005).
Before taking over the Seward County
program in 1996, Brown served as an assistant for four seasons under
Dale Reed.
Brown is Seward County’s all-time
coaching leader in wins with 253 wins against 104 losses. The 253
wins rank No. 7 in Region VI coaching history.
During his tenure at Seward County,
Brown coached four first-team NJCAA All-Americans, five Jayhawk West
Most Valuable Players, three Jayhawk West Freshmen of the Year and
nine of the top 10 leading scorers in Saints basketball history.
Brown earned an Associate of Arts
degree from Fort Scott Community College in 1975 and graduate from
Kansas Wesleyan University in 1978.
Brown has three children: Heather,
who is married and living in Austin, Texas; Nicole, who attends
Pittsburg State University; and Jason, who attends Fort Scott
Community College. Both Nicole and Jason reside in Fort Scott with
their mother. |
