Freshman guard Darius
Johnson-Odom was named NJCAA National Division
I Player of the Week after a spectacular performance last weekend at the
Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville.
Johnson-Odom broke the
single-season school record with a 46-point outing in a 90-86 loss to
Coffeyville on Friday night. The old record belonged to Richard Morsden,
who scored 45 points against Dodge City in 1972.
For the game,
Johnson-Odom hit 14 of 26 shots, 8 of 17 from 3-point range, and was 10
of 10 from the free-throw line. Johnson-Odom also had nine rebounds,
four assists and one steal in 38 minutes, 50 seconds.
Johnson-Odom carried the
team, especially in the last 12 minutes, scoring 32 points during that
span.
Two days later,
Johnson-Odom scored 32 points in a 78-48 victory over Kansas City.
Johnson-Odom hit 12 of 17 shots, 3 of 7 from long range and was 5 of 6
from the free-throw line. Johnson-Odom had a double-double with 10
rebounds, adding three assists, and a steal in 31:52 of playing time.
Johnson-Odom averaged 39
points per game, hitting 26 of 43 overall shots (60.5 percent), 11 of 24
from 3-point range (45.8 percent) and 15 of 16 from the free-throw line
(93.8 percent).
In his last three games,
Johnson has scored 30 points vs. Allen County, 46 vs. Coffeyville and 32
vs. Allen County.
Johnson-Odom is
currently sixth in the nation in scoring at 23.7 points per game.
