WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team produced its biggest victory in the history of the program with a thrilling five-gave victory over eight-time national champion Miami-Dade in the first round of the 2006 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament at the West Plains Civic Center.

The Lady Dragons won the first two games, lost the next two and had one match point against them in Game 5, but found a way to knock off the Sharks 30-23, 30-20, 29-31, 21-30, 18-16.

Hutchinson (23-13), ranked 12th in the nation and seeded 12th in the tournament, will play North Idaho (35-6) in the quarterfinals at Noon Tuesday. The Lady Dragons won in the first round for the third-straight year and can finish no worse than eighth.

Lady Dragons ready

for NJCAA opening match

The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team opens the 2006 NJCAA Division I volleyball tournament at 4 p.m. on Monday against Miami-Dade at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains, Mo.

The Lady Dragons earned the 12th seed after finishing a third-straight regional championship season with a 22-13 record. Miami-Dade, which has won eight national championships, is the fifth seed with a 22-6 record.
