Two Hutchinson Community College volleyball
players earned national weekly honors for their play last weekend.
Sophomore All-American middle blocker Ludmila
Amaral and sophomore libero KeAnne Langford were named NJCAA National Hitter
and Libero of the Week after two tremendous efforts at the 2007 Tyson Foods
Invitational last weekend at the Sports Arena.
Amaral, from Cubatao, Brazil,
averaged 4.4 kills, 2.1 digs, 1.9 blocks and 0.4
service aces and had a .413 attack percentage over 20 games last week.
Amaral recorded three
double-doubles on the week, leading Hutchinson to victories over two ranked
opponents. In a win over No. 15 San Jacinto she had 20 kills, 10 digs, eight
blocks and four service aces. She followed that with a school-record 26
kills, 12 digs and eight blocks in a win over No. 17 Northeastern Junior
College.
In the only loss of the
week she had 17 kills, 12 digs and five blocks against No. 6 Iowa Western.
Langford, from Meade,
Kan., averaged 6.6 digs per game over 20 games last week. Hutchinson
finished the week going 2-1 against ranked opponents.
In a win over No. 15
San Jacinto Langford collected a career-high 29 digs, which was the
third-most in school history in a match of any length.
She followed that with
18 digs in a win over No. 17 Northeastern and 28 in a loss to No. 6 Iowa
Western.
In five matches last
week, Langford had 28 or more digs in four matches. |
