LAWRENCE – The Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field team had one major highlight on the final day of the KU Relays at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence on Saturday.

HCC’s 4x100 relay finished third with a time of 41.86 seconds behind NAIA Mid-America Nazarene and NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State.

The team of Carlton Whitney, Teddy Poole, Alex Winfrey and Markish Jones ran the third-fastest time in the sprint relay and qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor championships in mid-May at Levelland, Texas.

HCC’s relay qualified for Saturday’s finals with a second-place time in the second of four preliminary heats on Friday with a time of 42.27 seconds.

Also on Saturday, HCC All-America high jumper Dustin Jones finished tied for 16th after clearing 6 feet, 4.5 inches.

The 2008 Hutch Night Relays will be Saturday at Gowans Stadium. HCC will play host to seven teams in the Blue Dragons' annual home meet.

The Hutchinson Community College track and field team will play host to its third major competition since the completion of the Gowans Stadium renovation on Saturday night with the 2008 Hutchinson Night Relays.

The second running of the renewal of the Night Relays begins at Gowans at 1 p.m.

Eight teams are scheduled to compete in the 2008 Night Relays. In addition to Hutchinson will be Barton County, Butler, Cloud County, Colby, Garden City, Bethany College and Kansas Wesleyan.

There will be two events off site from Gowans. The men's and women's hammer will be at the Kansas State Fairgrounds on Severance, next to the Fairgrounds Water Park.

The hammer begins at noon. Then at 1:30 p.m. the men's and women's javelin will begin at Hutchinson High School's Don Michael Field on Severance, just south of 17th. <RELEASE>

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sophomore Teddy Poole earned All-America status in two sprints to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s track team at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University’s Lantz Fieldhouse.

Poole placed second in the 60 meters in 6.81 seconds. He was edged by Hinds Community College’s Anton Taylor, who ran a 6.77.

Poole wasn’t able to defend his 200-meter championship from last season. Poole played fourth in the 200 on Saturday in a time of 21.95 seconds.  <FULL RELEASE>

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sophomores Teddy Poole and A.J. Isham advanced to Saturday’s finals a combined three events to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field team on Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Lantz Fieldhouse at Eastern Illinois University.

Poole qualified for Saturday’s finals in both the 60 and 200 meters. Pool had the second-fastest qualifying times in both events, qualifying for the 60 in a time of 6.79 seconds and the 300 in 21.95 seconds. Poole is the defending 200-meter national champion.

Isham had a personal best in the 600 meters, qualifying with the eighth-best time of 1 minute, 22.13 seconds. <FULL RELEASE>

MANHATTAN – Hutchinson Community College’s 4x800-meter relay became the latest Blue Dragon qualifier for nationals on Sunday at the 2008 Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan.

The relay team of A.J. Isham, Chase Thompson, Justin Riggs and Jacob Yates ran a season-best and fifth-place time of 8 minutes, 5.35 seconds, which qualifies the team for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships next month in Charleston, Ill.
