NORMAN, Okla. – The
Hutchinson Community College women’s 4x800-meter relay team became the fifth
Lady Dragon national track qualifier of the 2009 indoor season on Saturday
at the Oklahoma Christian Invitational.
The relay team of Samantha
Martin, Mychala Money, Ashton Trotter and Andrea Scheuerman finished fourth
in the 4x880-yard relay at OCU with a time of 10 minutes, 23.94 seconds.
The Lady Dragon relay will
now compete in the 2009 NJCAA Indoor national championships over the first
weekend of March in Lubbock, Texas, at Texas Tech University.
HCC’s women had only one
top-three finish on Saturday.
National qualifier Leeza
Henry took third in the shot put with a top effort of 38 feet, 11.75 inches.
Freshmen Shayla Thompson and
Cali Shamburg had good meets for the Lady Dragons in the jumps.
Thompson finished fourth in
the triple jump with a leap of 31-7.25. Shamburg was fifth at 31-5.25.
Shamburg, a national qualifier in the pole vault, took fourth after clearing
9-10. Thompson was fourth in the high jump at 4-7.75.
The Blue Dragons will
compete at the Region VI championships. The combined-event competition will
be Friday at Highland Community College and Saturday at Johnson County
Community College. The remainder of the meet will be on Sunday at Ahearn
Fieldhouse at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
