OVERLAND PARK – Freshman
Leeza Henry broke the Hutchinson Community College weight throw record to
lead a very strong performance by the Lady Dragons at the Johnson County
Cavalier Night Relays.
Henry broke a 10-year-old
Lady Dragon record with a mark of 46 feet, 4.75 inches. Henry, who has
already qualified for nationals in both the eight throw and shot put,
eclipsed the old mark of 46-1, which was set at the 1999 NJCAA Indoor
National Championship by Jeanie Buckaloo.
Henry’s mark at Johnson
County is the sixth-best performance in the nation this season in the weight
throw.
Sophomore sprinter Jackie
Ford became the Lady Dragons’ fourth national indoor qualifier in 2009.
Ford earned a national
indoor berth in the 60 meters with a season’s top performance of 7.81
seconds, which was third in the 60-meter finals.
The Lady Dragons have four
total national qualifiers through three indoor meets.
Hutchinson won 7 of 15
events and had 22 top-three finishes in the three-team meet that included
Johnson County and Cowley College.

Sophomore Brandi
Stegman won the 400 meters in a season’s-best time of 1:08.31.

Sophomore Andrea
Scheuerman won the 1,000 meters in a season’s-best time of 3:32.64.

Freshman Hannah
McPherson won two events, winning the long jump with a leap of 16-5 a
season-best mark. McPherson also and a top season mark in winning the triple
jump at 34-10.25.
l
Henry won both throws
events. She also won the shot put at 40-10.25.
The Lady Dragons are off
this week before heading back to Norman, Okla., for the second Oklahoma
Christian University Invitational on Feb. 14.
