CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sophomore Teddy Poole
earned All-America status in two sprints to lead the Hutchinson Community
College men’s track team at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on
Saturday at Eastern Illinois University’s Lantz Fieldhouse.
Poole placed second in the 60 meters in 6.81
seconds. He was edged by Hinds Community College’s Anton Taylor, who ran a
6.77.
Poole wasn’t able to defend his 200-meter
championship from last season. Poole played fourth in the 200 on Saturday in
a time of 21.95 seconds.
The Blue Dragon men finished 13th in the team
standings with 21 points. Rend Lake captured the men’s team championship
with 133 points. Barton County was second with 86.
The HCC women finished in a tie for 21st with
five team points. Rend Lake won the women’s crown with 120.5 points. Barton
County was second with 109 points.
Other Blue Dragon performances on Saturday:
+ Sophomore Gavin Wuthrich finished fourth in
the weight throw with a top effort of 55 feet, 7.75 inches. Wuthrich,
already the school record holder in the event,
re-established his record with Saturday's throw.
+ A.J. Isham placed eighth in the 600 meters
in a time of 1 minute, 25.74 seconds.
+ The men’s 4x800 meter relay team of Chase
Thompson, Justin Riggs, Wade Adams and Taje Livingston played eighth in a
time of 8:01.83.
+ Dustin Jones finished eighth in the high
jump, clearing 6-6.
+ The women’s 4x800 meter relay team of Amber
Kerschen, Natalie Marshall, Ashton Trotter and Andrea Schurman was sixth in
a time of 10:18.78.
+ Elaya Foster took seventh in the weight
throw with a top distance of 47-6.25.
