POOLE, ISHAM ADVANCE TO FINALS IN THREE EVENTS

AT NJCAA INDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sophomores Teddy Poole and A.J. Isham advanced to Saturday’s finals a combined three events to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field team on Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Lantz Fieldhouse at Eastern Illinois University.

Poole qualified for Saturday’s finals in both the 60 and 200 meters. Pool had the second-fastest qualifying times in both events, qualifying for the 60 in a time of 6.79 seconds and the 300 in 21.95 seconds. Poole is the defending 200-meter national champion.

Isham had a personal best in the 600 meters, qualifying with the eighth-best time of 1 minute, 22.13 seconds.

Elsewhere on Friday:

+ The men’s distance medley relay of Wade Adams, Chris Copeland, Isham and Taje Livingston finished ninth in a time of 10:36.44, eclipsing the best Blue Dragon time of the season by 23 full seconds.

+ Copeland didn’t make the finals in the 400, finishing third in his heat with a time of 52.03 seconds.

+Taz Hawthorne, who had the best throw of the season coming into nationals in the shot put, finished ninth with a top effort of 46-10.

On the women’s side, sophomore Lauren Kelly finished 15th in the long jump with a best effort of 17 feet, 0.5 inch.

Competition concludes on Saturday.
