HCC WOMEN HAVE GOOD SHOWING IN SPRINTS,

MIDDLE DISTANCE AT PITT STATE

PITTSBURG – The Hutchinson Community College women’s indoor track and field team had several strong showing in the sprints and middle distance races on Friday at the Pitt State Invitational with those events garnering four of HCC’s five top-five finishes.

The Lady Dragons had no NJCAA indoor national qualifiers on Friday.

Freshman sprinter Jackie Ford finished third in the 200 in 27.54 seconds, her second-best time in the event. She also qualified for the finals of the 55 meters and finished sixth in 7.74 seconds.

Ford was also a part of HCC’s third-place 4 x 400-meter relay team, which ran a season’s best time of 4:21.88.

Freshman Andrea Schurman was third in the mile run with a time of 6:12.48.

Sophomore Kristen Torres, running the 3,000 meters for the first time this season, ran a team-best 13:46.64 to finish third. Freshman Ashley Dunham was fourth in 14:00.07, her season-best by more than 10 seconds.

Sophomore Amanda Young was fifth in the high jump at 4-9.75, her second-best performance of the season. Freshmen Natalie Marshall and Katie Holloway tied for sixth at 4-6.

The Lady Dragons will compete next Saturday at the Oklahoma Christian Invitational at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
