HIGHLAND – Freshman Jackie Ford and sophomore Lauren Kelly garnered two event
victories each to lead the Hutchinson Community College women’s track team
to a strong performance in its first outing of the 2008 indoor season on
Saturday at the Highland Classic.
No official scoring was kept, but the Lady
Dragons would have tallied 152 team points had the meet been scored, which
would have been second behind Benedictine College (183). Hutchinson athletes
won four events. The Lady Dragons had no national qualifiers on Saturday.
Ford won the 200 meters in a time of 28.10
seconds and took second in the 55 meters in 7.72 seconds. Kelly captured the
long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 3.25 inches and took third in the 200
meters in 28.58 seconds. Kelly was second in the triple jump at 33-5.25.
Fort and Kelly were two legs of the Lady
Dragon-winning 4x400-meter relay which won in 4:29.16.
The Hutch women had 10 top-three finishes at
Highland.
Freshmen Ashton Trotter and Kristi Oak took
first and second, respectively, in the 600 meters. Trotter won with a time
of 1:48.28. Oak was second in 1:55.91. Trotter also placed third in the long
jump at 15-3.25.
Sophomore All-American Kayla Delzer was
second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.11. Right behind Delzer in
third was freshman Natalie Marshall with a 2:46.43.
Freshman Katie Holloway took second in the
55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.68 seconds.
Sophomore Amanda Young was second in the high
jump at 4-10.5.
Sophomore Chelsey Dreiling finished second in
the weight throw with a top distance of 37-10.
Freshman Krystal Smith was third in the 300
meters in 50.24 seconds.
The Lady Dragons will complete in the Jayhawk
Classic at the University of Kansas on Friday in Lawrence.
