SALINA – The Hutchinson Community
College women’s tennis team earned its third victory of the season
with a 4-1 triumph over Kansas Wesleyan University on Monday.
Only five matches were contested
because KWU does not have a full tennis roster. The Lady Dragons
(3-5) snapped a two-dual losing streak after not dropping a set
against the Coyotes.
Freshman Taylor Kenyon snapped a
three-match losing streak with most dominant performance of the
season. Kenyon (2-5) defeated Justine Gant at No. 2 singles 6-0,
6-2. It’s Kenyon’s first straight-set victory this season.
Sophomore Kim Morgan (2-6) won for
the second time in four outings with a strong 6-1, 6-2 victory over
Brittany Parke.
Sophomore Brooke Turner (7-1) won her
seventh consecutive match with an 8-2 pro-set victory over Maryla
Casillas at No. 4 singles. Casillas defeated Jessica Armstrong (4-4)
at No. 3 singles 8-1 for HCC’s only loss of the match.
Ashley Kirkpatrick and Karen Seirer
snapped a three-match losing streak with a 8-4 victory over Gant and
Park in the only doubles match played in the dual.
The Lady Dragons next play at Newman
University on April 17.
