SALINA – Hutchinson Community College men’s tennis players dropped only one set as the Blue Dragons rolled to a 9-0 victory over Kansas Wesleyan University on Monday.

The Blue Dragons snapped a two-dual losing streak and won for the first time since sweeping Hesston College 9-0 on March 28.

Sophomore Kevin Montisano (5-3) won for the third time in his last four matches defeating Jose Suarez 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Derek Ohl evened his season record at 4-4 with an 8-3 pro-set victory over Jeff Barron.

No. 1 singles player Mark Barlett snapped a two-match skid with a bizarre match against Kansas Wesleyan’s Brad Vanover. Barlett dominated the first set 6-0, but dropped the second 0-6. Barlett (3-5) recovered to win the super tie-break 10-6.

HCC’s No. 3 singles player, Russell Fluty (3-5) dominated his match with Andrew Frisbie, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Brandon Dixon (3-5) defeated Andy Brockman at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-1 and Casey Eveleigh (4-4) outlasted Jeff Barron at No. 6 singles 8-6. Barron played pro-set matches at both Nos. 5 and 6 singles for the Coyotes.

Barlett and Dixon evened their doubles record at 4-4 with a tough 9-7 victory over Vanover and Brockman at No. 1 doubles.

Fluty and Montisano, playing as a doubles team for only the second time this season, easily defeated Suarez and Frisbie 8-1. There was no match at No. 3 doubles.
