NORTH NEWTON – Sophomore Ashley
Kirkpatrick won her third-straight singles match and sophomore
Brooke Turner earned her fifth-straight singles victory, albeit in a
Lady Dragon dual loss to Bethel College on Tuesday.
Bethel defeated Hutchinson 7-2 at the
Bethel tennis courts. The Lady Dragons fall to 2-5 for the season.
Kirkpatrick (4-3) won a marathon
match for the second straight dual, defeating Amy Castle at No. 4
singles 11-9 in the super-tie break. Kirkpatrick won the first set
7-6, dominating the tie-break 7-1, but was broken once in the second
set in falling 5-7.
Kirkpatrick is now 2-0 in super-tie
breaks.
Turner (5-1) won her fifth straight
with a two-set sweep of Heather Robertson 6-4, 6-2. Turner has won
eight straight regular sets and nine sets overall. One of those
victories was an eight-game pro-set win against Barton County.
Nearly all of HCC’s individual losses
were in tightly played matches. Kim Morgan lost 10-6 in a super-tie
break to Maya Kehr at No. 1 singles. Morgan and Taylor Kenyon
dropped a 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles to Kehr and Castle. Turner
and Jessica Armstrong lost 8-6 at No. 3 singles and Kirkpatrick and
Karen Seirer lost 8-5 at No. 2 singles to Jana Jensen and Sara Pugh.
The Lady Dragons play in the Bethel
College Invitational on Friday and Saturday in North Newton.
