HCC SOFTBALL TEAM TO PLAY HOST TO

NEOSHO COUNTY IN REGION VI OPENER

HCC Sports Information

Thursday, April 23, 2009

The Hutchinson Community College softball team will play host to Neosho County this weekend in the best-of-3 opening round of the Region VI Tournament at Fun Valley.

Game 1 of the series will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with Game 2 about 20 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1. If a third game is necessary, it would be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Fun Valley.

Hutchinson (19-27 overall) earned the eighth seed and the final spot for a home site after a 15-15 league record.

Neosho County finished in a three-way tie with Dodge City and Cloud County for ninth place and earned the ninth overall seed because the Panthers won the tiebreakers with the Conquistadors and Thunderbirds.

Hutchinson swept its doubleheader with Neosho County at Fun Valley on March 21. The Lady Dragons won 4-0 and 9-2.

This is the first year for this playoff format for Region VI Division II, which will have two representatives at the NJCAA National Tournament in Normal, Ill., in mid-May.

In the first phase, the top eight finishers from the regular season will play the bottom eight finishers in best-of-3 series this weekend. Those eight winners will compete either in the District D or District E bracket, which will be two four-team, double-elimination brackets at Wichita’s Two Rivers’ Complex on May 2 and 3.

Hutchinson will be in District D.
