ASSISTANT - CORY STRAHORN

Cory Strahorn has played and coached in national championship games and has coached a future NFL receiver in his career.

Strahorn, a native of Blackwell, Okla., is the Hutchinson Blue Dragons’ Quarterbacks Coach, Receivers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.

Strahorn comes to Hutchinson after spending one season with Blue Dragon coach Rion Rhoades at Fort Scott Community College in 2006. He was part of helping the Greyhound program turn around a 24-game losing streak into a 7-5 season that culminated in a berth in the 2006 Region VI Championship game and an appearance in the 2006 Heart of Texas Bowl.

At Fort Scott, Strahorn was the receivers and kickers coach. He had one Greyhound receiver, who was voted to the All-Jayhawk Conference second team and a placekicker who was all-league honorable mention.

From 2000 to 2001, Strahorn served as the receivers coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. While at Northwestern Oklahoma State, one of Strahorn’s receivers was All-American Patrick Crayton, a seventh round pick in the 2004 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

Strahorn was also a part of coaching his receivers to the 2000 NAIA National Championship game which was part of the offense that ranked number one in the nation in total offense.  Strahorn also coached two Central States Football League first team receivers at Northwestern.

In 2002, Strahorn coached in the Spring, Texas, Independent School District.

After his first stint in Texas, Strahorn coached the running backs and kickers in 2003 and 2004 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  He was a part of the Lone Star Conference North Championship team in 2004 that also qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs. Strahorn also coached one first-team Lone Star Conference tailback in Brian Odom and second-team Lone Star Conference kicker, Pete Cuva in 2004.

Strahorn went to Fort Scott after spending one semester teaching and coaching running backs and kickers in the New Caney, Texas, Independent School District in the fall of 2005.

As a player, Strahorn attended Blackwell Public Schools and was honored as a Red Chip football athlete, honorable mention All-State kicker, and an all-area receiver for the Maroons his senior year.

Strahorn earned his bachelors’ degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in health, physical education and recreation and went on earn a master’s degree in secondary education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

At Southwestern, Strahorn was a three-year football letterman for the Bulldogs at wide receiver. In 1996, he was a member of the NAIA Division I national championship team and was named All-Conference that same season. In 1997, he was chosen all-All-Lone Star Conference North Division after SWOSU moved to NCAA Division II.
