Cory Strahorn has played and coached
in national championship games and has coached a future NFL receiver
in his career.
Strahorn, a native of Blackwell,
Okla., is the Hutchinson Blue Dragons’ Quarterbacks Coach, Receivers
Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
Strahorn comes to Hutchinson after
spending one season with Blue Dragon coach Rion Rhoades at Fort
Scott Community College in 2006. He was part of helping the
Greyhound program turn around a 24-game losing streak into a 7-5
season that culminated in a berth in the 2006 Region VI Championship
game and an appearance in the 2006 Heart of Texas Bowl.
At Fort Scott, Strahorn was the
receivers and kickers coach. He had one Greyhound receiver, who was
voted to the All-Jayhawk Conference second team and a placekicker
who was all-league honorable mention.
From 2000 to 2001, Strahorn served as
the receivers coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. While
at Northwestern Oklahoma State, one of Strahorn’s receivers was
All-American Patrick Crayton, a seventh round pick in the 2004 NFL
draft by the Dallas Cowboys.
Strahorn was also a part of coaching
his receivers to the 2000 NAIA National Championship game which was
part of the offense that ranked number one in the nation in total
offense. Strahorn also coached two Central States Football League
first team receivers at Northwestern.
In 2002, Strahorn coached in the
Spring, Texas, Independent School District.
After his first stint in Texas,
Strahorn coached the running backs and kickers in 2003 and 2004 at
Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He was a part of the Lone
Star Conference North Championship team in 2004 that also qualified
for the NCAA Division II playoffs. Strahorn also coached one
first-team Lone Star Conference tailback in Brian Odom and
second-team Lone Star Conference kicker, Pete Cuva in 2004.
Strahorn went to Fort Scott after
spending one semester teaching and coaching running backs and
kickers in the New Caney, Texas, Independent School District in the
fall of 2005.
As a player, Strahorn attended
Blackwell Public Schools and was honored as a Red Chip football
athlete, honorable mention All-State kicker, and an all-area
receiver for the Maroons his senior year.
Strahorn earned his bachelors’ degree
from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in health, physical
education and recreation and went on earn a master’s degree in
secondary education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
At
Southwestern, Strahorn was a three-year football letterman for the
Bulldogs at wide receiver. In 1996, he was a member of the NAIA
Division I national championship team and was named All-Conference
that same season. In 1997, he was chosen all-All-Lone Star
Conference North Division after SWOSU moved to NCAA Division II.
