ASSISTANT - CHAD MCKINNIS

Chad McKinnis comes to Hutchinson Community College this season as the defensive line coach.

McKinnis is a longtime high school assistant in the state of Kansas at Uniontown, Chanute, Fort Scott and Wichita Northwest high schools.

The Uniontown, Kan., native started his coaching career at Wichita Northwest in 1991. He spent one season with the Grizzlies. Northwest won the Wichita City League title and went 8-1.

McKinnis moved on to Fort Scott and spent seven seasons at that school as the Tigers' defensive coordinator and helped build the foundation to Fort Scott becoming a perennial state football power. In 1996, Fort Scott won its first Class 4A state championship. During McKinnis' tenure at Fort Scott, the Tigers were 43-17 with two SEK League championships, two district championships and a pair of first-round Class 4A state playoff victories.

From 2000 to 2003, McKinnis was the defensive coordinator at Chanute High School and helped orchestrate that program's first Class 4A state playoff appearance in 10 years in 2000. McKinnis' Chanute teams compiled a record of 18-11.

McKinnis' next coaching stop came at Class 3A Uniontown, again as defensive coordinator. In four seasons with the Eagles, Uniontown had a combined 23-19 record. Uniontown won Three Rivers League titles in 2005 and 2006. The Eagles earned three straight 3A playoff appearances, something that hadn't been done at Uniontown since 1985.

As a college football player, McKinnis played at Fort Scott Community College and at Kansas State University.

At Fort Scott, McKinnis was the second-leading rusher in the Jayhawk Conference, rushing for almost 1,000 yards. He was first-team all-Jayhawk Conference in 1986 and the Greyhounds qualified for the Jayhawk Conference Playoffs in that season.
McKinnis was also named the Fort Scott Community College Athlete of the Year in 1986. In addition to football, McKinnis was a two-year letterman in baseball.

McKinnis transferred to Kansas State in for the 1988 and 1989 seasons. In 1988 he played for Stan Parrish and in 1989 for Bill Snyder.

McKinnis graduate from Uniontown High School in 1985 with an Associate of Arts degree from Fort Scott Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor of Arts from Wichita State University in 1989.

McKinnis and his wife, Jodi, have two children: Gage (17) and Quin (10).
