Josh Lattimer joins the Hutchinson Community College
Blue Dragon football staff as linebacker coach, a position that he
has seen great success as both a coach and player.
Lattimer comes to HCC from short coaching stint at
Pittsburg State University, where he was the linebackers coach in
2006 and an All-America linebacker for the Gorillas from 2001 to
2005.
As a linebacker coach for Pittsburg State in 2006,
the Gorillas went 10-2, defeating Bemidji State in the Mineral Water
Bowl. Two Gorilla linebackers earned all-MIAA league postseason
honors under Lattimer's tutelage.
As a player for legendary coach Chuck Broyles,
Lattimer was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American, a three-time
all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player and a
two-time all-region player as an inside linebacker.
The Gorillas made three NCAA Division II playoff
appearances in Lattimer's playing days. A three-year starter at PSU,
Lattimer led the Gorillas in tackles in each of those seasons and is
second all-time on the Pittsburg State career tackles chart with 394
total stops.
During Lattimer's playing days, Pittsburg State won
MIAA championships in 2003 and 2004, with the Gorillas going 13-1
and finishing as national runner-up in 2004. Lattimer was named
Pittsburg State's defensive MVP in 2005.
Also while he was at PSU, Lattimer was a two-time
NCAA Division II national qualifier in track and field in the
Javelin. He also ranks in the PSU Top 10 in that event.
Born, Sept. 10, 1982, the Fort Scott, Kan., native
was a stellar athlete at Fort Scott High School winning a triple
crown of sorts - Class 4A state championships in football, wrestling
and track and field - during his senior season.
He was a three-time Class 4A all-state linebacker and
was named to the All-State Top 11 by both the Wichita Eagle and
Topeka Capital-Journal in 2001 in helping Fort Scott win the Class
4A state championship.
As a prep wrestler, Lattimer won back-to-back
undefeated state titles at 215 pounds. He was a four-time state
qualifiers and a three-time state finalist, losing in the Class 4A
state finals in his sophomore season.
Lattimer was a three-time state qualifier in track
and field, competing in the javelin.
Lattimer earned a Bachelor of General Studies degree
from Pittsburg State in 2007. He is single.
His parents are Joe and Julie Lattimer. He has two
brothers: Joseph and Jacob; and one sister: Jillian. Jacob Lattimer
is a freshman on this year's Blue Dragon football team.
