Hutchinson Community College
freshman running back Chris Anderson had the hot hand on Saturday night
against Highland and his performance earned him NJCAA National Offensive
Player of the Week honors.
Anderson (5-10, 193,
Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) had a school-record six touchdowns in a 58-6 victory
over Highland last Saturday night at Gowans Stadium. Rushing 20 times for
120 yards, Anderson scored on runs of 4, 11, 6, 1, 5 and 1 yard. It was the
first collegiate 100-yard game for the transfer from Troy University.
Anderson surpassed the old
record of five touchdowns set by Jamison Palmer against Independence in a
first-round Jayhawk Conference Playoff game in 1998.
After two games, Anderson
has rushed for 213 yards and seven touchdowns. He is ranked 16th in the
NJCAA in rushing and is tied for first in the nation for touchdowns scored.
Anderson is also helping the
Blue Dragons lead the nation in rushing at 346.5 yards per game.
Anderson becomes HCC’s first
national player of the week since Thatcher Starling was named co-NJCAA
Defensive player of the week last season. He is the he first Blue Dragon
since Danny McEvoy in 2007 to earn the national offensive player of the week
award.
Hutchinson, now No. 6 in the
NJCAA, travels to Dodge City on Saturday night. |
