AUGUSTA – The
Hutchinson Community College women’s cross country team opened the
2009 season on Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the Wichita
State Invitational at Raft Golf Course.
The Lady Dragons,
who were the top-finishing junior college team in the
university/college field, scored 135 points in the team scoring.
Kansas State and Wichita State tied for first with 30 points.
Southwestern College was third with 79 points.
Freshman Tamara
Gagne was HCC’s top finisher with a 27th-place time of 17 minutes,
32.45 seconds. Gagne was the second-leading junior college runner in
the Division I-heavy field.
Other finishers who
counted in the Lady Dragons’ team score were freshman Annelle
Chestnut, who was 29th in 17:36.69, freshman Emily Mezler was 30th
in 17:39.15, sophomore Realynn Pounds was 36th in 18:03.76, and
freshman Jolan Holloway, who was 38th in 18:12.07
Other Lady Dragons
results were: Darra Durant (40th, 18:15.45), Tamara Ketterl (41st,
18:16.40), Callie Ellwood (44th, 19:12.62), Haley Garst (46th,
19:22.81), Anne Mailoux (47th, 19:23.76) and Morgan Shambley (49th,
20:16.78).
Hutchinson will next
compete at the Friends University Invitational on Friday at Lake
Afton.
