ARKANSAS CITY – Freshman Justin Riggs
earned All-Jayhawk West Conference honors on Monday, leading the
Hutchinson Community College men’s cross country team to a
fourth-place showing in the Region VI Men’s Cross Country
Championships at Cowley College.
The Blue Dragons scored 117 team
points in the regional standings. Cowley College won the men’s
Region VI team title with 42 points. HCC had 62 points in the
Jayhawk West standings to finish as conference runner-up behind
Butler, which scored 28 points.
Riggs earned All-Jayhawk West honors
with an eighth-place Jayhawk West finish. His time of 27 minutes,
0.98 seconds was good enough to finish 15th in the regional race.
Sophomore Chase Thompson was the next
HCC runner to cross the finish line. His time was 27:08.02, which
was 19th in Region VI and 10th in the conference.
Cloud County’s Julius Bor was the
regional and Jayhawk West champion with a time of 24.59.14, just
edging Cowley’s Daniel Maina by 0.55 seconds.
