MCPHERSON – Paced by three Top-10
placers, the 14th-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s cross
country team captured the McPherson College Invitational on Saturday
at the McPherson Country Club.
Sophomores Justin Riggs and Chase
Thompson and freshman Wade Adams finished sixth, seventh and eighth,
respectively, helping Hutchinson win its first team title of the
season.
The Blue Dragons scored 51 points and
their average time was 28 minutes, 56.26 seconds. NCAA Division II
Fort Hays State had 72 points and McPherson was third with 78.
In sloppy field conditions, there was
heavy rain in the McPherson area right until the women’s race began;
Riggs cut more than 2:20 off of his season-opening performance with
a sixth-place showing in a time of 28:02.70.
Thompson was seventh in a time of
28:41.20 and Adams was eighth in 28:47.70.
Also running times that were scored,
freshman Kevin Strawn placed 16th in a time of 29:28.90. Freshman
Theodore Harris in a time of 29:40.80.
Colby’s Nero Sandino won the
individual title with a time of 27:22.10.
Other Blue Dragons performances were:
freshman Taje Livingston (31st, 30:28.90), sophomore Nick Robinson
(33rd, 30:36.50), freshman Jacob Pope (34th, 30:41.30), sophomore
Chris Marshall (30:46.60), sophomore Harley Ewing (39th, 31:04.60)
and freshman Garrett Woods (40th, 31:10.00).
Three other Blue Dragons ran as
unattached runners. Freshman James Ewing was 48th in 31:57.000,
freshman Larry Deloch was 52nd in a time of 32:16.80 and freshman
Jacob Yates was 55th in 32:36.60.
The Blue Dragons travel to the Tabor
College Invitational on Saturday at Cottonwood Point at Marion
Reservoir near Hillsboro. The men’s race is scheduled to start at
10:30 a.m.
