Midwest Toyota supports the HCC Lady Dragons on three
point shots.
Last season, every time the Lady Blue Dragons of
Hutchinson Community College sank a three-point shot, Midwest Toyota of
Hutchinson, Kansas, chipped in $25. to move the women's basketball team
closer to a tournament in San Diego.
"A junior college has to rely on fund-raising to go to
tournaments like this," says Travis Kirk, the Lady Blue Dragons assistant coach.
"I came up with the idea of a three-point challenge and took
it to Eldon Estes, general manager of Midwest Toyota. He thought it was a
great way to support us."
The challenge started mid-season, and the athletes set a
goal of hitting 60 three-point shots. The team exceeded expectations by
scoring 88 three-point goals. Midwest Toyota's support put the Lady Blue
Dragons half to it's fund-raising goal.
"We were proud to help the team take to the
road for tournament play," says Estes, who is sponsoring the Three-Point
Challenge again this season. "Midwest Toyota concentrates much of
its support on ways to help young people meet their goals."
The dealership also supports Special Olympics and youth
soccer and sponsors a "high school player of the week" in newspaper ads.
