The Hutchinson Community
College women’s basketball team tied for the seventh-largest blowout and
tied for the seventh-most points scored in Lady Dragon history in a 61-point
pounding of the Bethany College Junior Varsity on Thursday night.
Five different Lady Dragons
either established new or tied season highs in points as the Lady Dragons
won their fifth straight to start the season in a 95-34 victory on Thursday
night at the Sports Arena, their 28th consecutive win over Bethany.
Hutchinson (5-0) scored the
first 40 points of the game before Bethany scored for the first time with
3:57 to play in the first half. The Lady Dragons led 54-14 at halftime.
Freshman Sasha King had a
season- and game-high 18 points to lead four Lady Dragons in double figures.
King was 8 of 11 shooting. She also had game-high four steals.
Freshman Heather Robben tied
a season high and freshman Brittney Chamberlin with 14 points each. Freshman
Brittney Bell had season highs of 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman
Calli Matthews had season highs of eight points and 11 boards.
The Lady Dragons shot a
season-high 47.1 percent (40 of 85) overall and had a season-high seven
3-point goals in 18 attempts and was 8 of 16 from the free-throw line.
Hutchinson had a season-high
68 rebounds, outrebounding Bethany 68-27.
Defensively, the Lady
Dragons held Bethany to a season-low 19.6 percent shooting (11 of 56). The
Swedes had only four 2-point goals, knocking down 7 of 29 3-point goals. The
Swedes committed 28 turnovers.
Katie Wendlend had a
team-high nine points.
Hutchinson’s defense held
Bethany to 0 of 13 shooting and 18 turnovers in the Swedes’ first 31
possessions in building a 40-0 lead.
The Lady Dragons will play
host to the Tabor College JV at 7 p.m. on Monday night at the Sports Arena.

– HCC’s bench outscored Bethany’s 56-15. … The
Lady Dragons outscored Bethany 37-3 in points off turnovers. … HCC is now
28-0 all time vs. Bethany. … It’s the largest blowout and the most points
scored ever against Bethany.
