BLUE DRAGONS FALL TO REGION VI

LOSER'S BRACKET AS COWLEY WINS LATE

By Bret Mitchell

HCC Sports Information

Sunday, May 11, 2008

WICHITA – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team rallied from five runs down in the final two innings, but Cowley third-baseman Tom O’Gorman had the final say with a bottom-of-the-ninth two-run home run that lifted the Jayhawk East champions past the Blue Dragons 8-6 in the winner’s bracket semifinals of the 2008 Region VI Tournament on Sunday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Hutchinson (39-15) falls to the loser’s bracket where it must win five-straight games to win its first regional championship since 2005. That quest begins at 1 p.m. on Monday when the Blue Dragons play host to Kansas City in an elimination game. A victory over KCK means another elimination game on Monday at 7 p.m. <FULL RELEASE>

WICHITA – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team took advantage of a strong wind on Saturday, pounding out five extra-base hits on the way to a 9-5 Region VI Tournament first-round victory over Fort Scott on Saturday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Blue Dragons (39-14) won a first-round game for the first time in Wichita since winning the 2005 Region VI championship. The Blue Dragons will meet Cowley College in a winner’s bracket semifinal at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Freshman Trever Adams had a season-high four RBIs, going 2 for 4, including a two-run triple to lead HCC’s 10-hit attack. Adam’s two-run opposite-field triple highlighted a three-run third inning. His two-run single in the fourth capped off a five-run inning. <FULL RELEASE>
