Trever Adams and Clay Cuno
hit back-to-back home runs in the decisive four-run seventh inning as the
Blue Squad won the opening game of the Blue Dragon Fall World Series with a
10-6 victory over the Red Squad on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Blue
Squad led 4-2
entering the seventh inning when Adams broke the game open with a three-run
home run off relief pitcher Taylor Roy. Cuno followed that with a home run
for an 8-2 lead.
The Blue
team pounded out 10
hits against four Red Squad pitchers, seven went for extra bases. Adams had
two homers, adding a two-run shot in the eighth to complete a 2-for-5, five
RBI game.
The Red
Squad scored single
runs in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead, but the
Blue Squad
tied the game at 2-all in the third on a Tim Statz sacrifice fly and an RBI
double by Brett Delcambre.
The Blue
Squad took the lead
in the sixth on Michael Faul’s two-run double in the sixth for a 4-2 lead.
Michael Peterson, the third
of five Blue pitchers, earned the victory, while Roy took the loss.
Adam Roy had a home run and
two hits to lead the Red’s seven-hit attack. Shaun Hoover had a two-run
home run.
Game 2 of the best-of-5
series will be at 1 p.m. Sunday
