LEWICK, DIXON HELP DRAGONS GET

JAYHAWK WEST SPLIT WITH BUTLER

HCC Sports Information

Friday, March 6, 2009

Andrew Dixon drove in five runs and Shawn Lewick pitched five gutsy innings to lead the Hutchinson Community College baseball team to a 10-5 Jayhawk West victory over Butler to force a split in a Jayhawk West doubleheader on Friday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Butler scored 14 runs in the first three innings of the opening game and went on to win 16-6.

Hutchinson (5-10, 4-2 Jayhawk West) will complete its four-game series with Butler at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

GAME 2 RECAP (HCC 10, Butler 5) - BOXSCORE

Dixon went 2 for 4 with a triple and a season-high five RBIs to lead the Blue Dragons in the second game. Dixon’s bases-loaded triple in the third inning proved to be the key hit as HCC took a 7-3 lead.

The Blue Dragons had 10 hits, getting two hits each from Trever Adams and Dan Klein, who had a two-run double in HCC’s three-run second inning.

Drew Wilkinson hit his first career home run, a two-run shot in the fifth inning.

Lewick (2-1) allowed five earned runs and four hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked three. Matt Williams threw two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Combined, Lewick and Williams limited Butler to just four hits in the nightcap, but four walks and three HCC errors made things more interesting than it should have been.

GAME 2 RECAP (Butler 16 HCC 6) - BOXSCORE

Sophomore Scott Keffer fell to 0-3 after a tough outing where he gave up 14 runs, only five were earned, and nine hits in just three innings.

HCC trailed 14-1 after three innings.

Dixon, Luke Acosta, Shaun Hoover, Adams, Mace Krol and David Longmore each had two hits. Acosta hit his first home run of the season. Krol drove in three runs.

Dorain Williams went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and Darren Boss had six RBI’s to lead Butler’s 14-hit attack
