GIRLS SEMIFINALS RECAPS

Wichita Collegiate 42, Rock Creek 40

Ashia Woods converted a three-point play with 23 seconds remaining to break a tie score and third-seeded Wichita Collegiate held off Rock Creek in a semifinal that featured one lead change and three ties in the final four minutes.

Rock Creek led 32-27 with 4:34 to play after a Taylor Ebert bucket. Collegiate went on an 11-2 run over the next 2 1/2 minutes to take a 38-34 lead after a Woods' layup with 1:18 to play. Rock Creek's Dana Elliott made four-straight free-throws and tied the score at 38-all with 34 seconds to play.

Woods then got an offensive rebounds and was fouled on the putback to give the Spartans a 41-38 lead with 23 seconds remaining. Elliott scored again with 10 seconds to play to pull Rock Creek within one point. Woods made 1 of 2 free throws with 8.3 seconds left to give Collegiate a 42-40 lead. The Spartans then held their breath as Elliott got a good look from 3-point range at the buzzer that was off the mark.

Woods finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists to lead Collegiate into Saturday's championship game.

Elliott finished with 18 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals to lead Rock Creek. Ebert had 12 points.

Southwestern Heights 65, Cherryvale 52

Deni Jacobs led four Southwestern Heights players in double figures as the Lady Mustangs advanced to the 3A girls championship game with a victory over Cherryvale in the second semifinal on Friday night.

Top-seeded Southwestern Heights jumped out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter and was really never threatened after that. The Lady Mustangs held Cherryvale to 32.6 percent shooting (15 of 46) and 19 turnovers.

Vivian Olvera had 12 points, going 10 of 11 from the free-throw line. Heidi Brown and Holly Brown scored 10 points each for the Lady Mustangs.

Kelsey Overacker, who had four fouls in the first half, scored 15 points to lead Cherryvale. Sara Schwaninger had her second-straight double-double with 13 points and a tournament-high 17 rebounds, along with three steals, three assists and two blocked shots..
