GIRLS QUARTERFINALS RECAPS

Rock Creek 40, Riley County 32

Second-seeded Rock Creek outscored Riley County 24-16 in the second half to break open a tied game at halftime.

Taylor Ebert had a perfect shooting day, going 3 of 3 with one 3-point goal, and was 4 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points to lead Rock Creek.

Defending state champion Riley County outshot Rock Creek 43.3 to 25.5 percent, but Rock Creek turned the ball over only eight times to Riley's 17.

Kelly Thomson had 10 points to lead Riley County.

Wichita Collegiate  54, Beloit 42

Ashia Woods scored 23 points, six rebounds and six steals to lead third-seeded Wichita Collegiate to a 12-point win over Beloit.

Collegiate led 30-19 at halftime, but couldn't shake sixth-seeded Beloit, which outscored the Spartans in the second half 24-23.

Collegiate shot 42.6 percent and had only seven turnovers. Sadie Clark finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Kalli Kruse led Beloit with 12 points. Ann Winkel had 11 points.

Southwestern Heights 49, Hillsboro 38

Top-seeded Southwestern Heights dominated the middle two quarters to earn a quarterfinal victory over eighth-seed Hillsboro.

Britny Butler scored 12 points to lead the Lady Mustangs. Vivian Olvera had 11 points and Deni Jacobs had 10.

Dakota Kaufman had 20 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and to steals to lead 3A perennial power Hillsboro. The Trojans turned the ball over 25 times.

Hillsboro led 12-9 after one quarter, but Southwestern Heights outscored the Trojans 28-8 in the second and third quarters.

Cherryvale 56, Jayhawk Linn 37

Sarah Schwaninger had the 2009 3A state tournament's first double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead fourth-seeded Cherryvale past Jayhawk Linn, which was making its first tournament appearance in 15 years.

Cherryvale jumped out on top 20-5 after one quarter. The Jayhawks got within 25-17 with 2:52 to play in the second quarter, but the Chargers closed the half on a 9-2 run to lead 34-19 at halftime

Cherryvale forced 32 Jayhawk Linn turnovers, converting them into 30 points.

Kelsey Overacker had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Chargers.

Cassie Rockers finished with 21 points to lead Jayhawk Linn.
