GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP DAY RECAPS

Consolation - Wichita Collegiate 57, Cherryvale 43

Ashia Woods had 20 points and five rebounds to lead Wichita Collegiate past Cherryvale in a game where for the first time in the entire tournament, both boys and girls, that the lower seed won a game.

Collegiate led 11-10 after one quarter, but dominated the rest of the way, building 27-18 lead at halftime.

Defensively, the Spartans (22-4) were strong, holding Cherryvale (21-5) to 38.6 percent shooting and forcing 26 turnovers.

Kim Alexander had 11 points and seven rebounds for Collegiate.

Katie DeTar led Cherryvale with 21 points. DeTar had 62 points in the tournament.

Championship - Riley County 46, Cimarron 30

Riley County completed its undefeated season and won its third Class 3A state championship since 1999 with a convincing victory over Cimarron.

Riley County jumped out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Defensively, Riley County (26-0) held Cimarron to 21.6 percent shooting (8 of 37), only 3 of 16 in the opening half. The Falcons led 30-12 at halftime.

Katie Henry scored 14 points to lead the Falcons. Beth Husted had 13. Riley County shot 57.9 percent in the first half.

Brooke Fairbank had seven points to lead Cimarron (24-2). Alexa Burns, Amanda Payne and Ellen Blattner had five each.

This is Riley County's first 3A state championship since 2005.
