After a much-anticipated parking lot sale held by the Hutchinson Community College forensics team, team members were pleased with the results. “It was a long day, but well worth the money we made,” Heather VanArsdale, Hutchinson, said. Forensics students began collecting items for the sale months ago, with the goal of raising money for next year’s team in mind. While it may not have been the students’ ideal way to spend a Saturday morning, forensics team members met outside Lockman Hall around 4 a.m. April 26 to begin setting up and loading vehicles to make the sale a success. With $917.80 raised for the upcoming season, team members were glad they could help give to future team endeavors. “It was a lot of hard work, but the feeling that we did it so that next year’s team would have something makes the lack of sleep and the stress of getting everything done worth it,” Salima Watson, Russell, said. All of the proceeds from the sale will go to next year’s travel expenses and lodging costs. Coach Andy Kemp was quoted in a campus-wide e-mail as saying, “To put the results in perspective, $917.80 nearly pays for travel, housing, and registration for at least one (Midwest) tournament.” The sale is to be held again next year, with exact dates and times to be announced in the future. Forensics students look forward to the sale next year, but hope to start a little later than 4 a.m. Students seemed to feel like they really did their part in earning the money for next year’s future expenses.
