As gasoline prices spike above $3.40 a
gallon, so the American way of life changes
too.Whether it’s eating out less or even
taking up bicycle riding, the average
student’s way of life on the Hutchinson
Community College campus has been altered in
a big way.

Coplen ready
to retire

The 2008 spring finals mark Dr. Mary Coplen’s last
required day to be on campus.“It was the biggest sense
of relief when I turned in my letter of resignation- I
have been happy ever since,” Coplen said. “Not that
there’s anything wrong with the institution; the faculty
and students at HCC have always been the dynamic
strength of this institution in moving
it forward to where it is today.”

Airlines need to
jack
up air fares to
survive

Four American airlines have gone under in the
last few weeks due to increasingly expensive jet
fuel. This rising cost of gasoline has
compromised many carriers, who are forced to
deal with covering the mounting costs by
increasing ticket prices, while still
encouraging consumers to purchase airline
tickets.

Hutchinson Community College softball team had its fair
share of ups and down this weekend but managed to
survive as they defeated Dodge City twice on April 18 ,
and lost a pair of games to Western Nebraska, April 20
at Fun Valley.
