To kick off the new school year, the Hutchinson Community College housing office organized a party Aug. 21, at the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center in Carey Park.

About 100 residence hall students and 20 resident advisors attended the event. The pool party, which started at 7 p.m., was planned as a social event for students and staff.

“We wanted to give the residence hall students the opportunity to get to know each other,” said Dana Hinshaw, director of the housing office.

At the entrance, each student received a $5 coupon for food and a drink. “I like that free food,” said Tate Meyhoff, Center, N. D.

Most of the students rushed to the diving area of the aquatic center, while others preferred playing water basketball.

The pool party, held for the second year in a row, attracted more students this year.

Some came to swim and have fun; others were there for a different reason. “It’s a good place to check out a beauty for this semester,” said Dominic Hutton, Wichita.
