Hutch finishes tourney 2-1
By Tully Cocoran

The HCC men’s basketball team has the runs.

In the basketball sense, the Dragons performance in the 28th annual Quarterback Classic on Nov. 1-3 was full of runs.

In their 66-52 win over Air Force Prep on Nov. 1, the Dragons led by four with 8:39 to go when Josh Gonner, freshman, hit a three.  That sparked a 15-0 run that culminated five minutes later with an electrifying  tip-dunk by Reggie Golson, sophomore.  During the run, Hutch forced three of Prep’s 29 turnovers and held the Huskies to just one shot.

“There is no secret to making runs in the game of basketball,” coach Chad Wintz said. “We capitaized on some turnovers and were able to get some easy baskets.”

Dainmon Gonner, sophomore, scored 18 points to lead the Dragons.  Sasha Mijajlovik, sophomore, had 14 points and Josh Gonner had 11.

In their 110-51 thrashing of Labette, HCC jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

The Dragons ruled the boards, out rebounding Labette 54-32 and turning 21 offensive rebounds into 28points.  HCC forced 25 turnovers and held Labette to 22 percent shooting.  Gonner paced four Dragons with double figures with 20 points.  Golson added 14 points and a game high 10 rebounds.  Mikael Hadiri, sophomore, had 12 and Modibo Niakate, sophomore, added 10.

Southern Idaho lead Hutch 17-4 early.  But  sophomore Coco Cofield ’s jumper with 1:13 left in the game cut the lead to 82-78.  That was as close as it got and Hutch fell 90-84.
