Healthy habits could help prevent winter epidemics As the cold and flu season continues to make students’ lives miserable, they are faced with a challenge: staying well enough to do their school work. It’s hard for students to stay on task during this time of year. With the millions of germs in the air, everyone has the possibility of becoming a victim. While doctors charge too much for a week’s supply of antibiotics, here are a few remedies students can do during this harsh season that won’t cost a thing. Sleep can play a major part in helping one’s body stay healthy. Without the proper amount of sleep, one’s immune system becomes tired and has a hard time fighting the germs. Watching what things you come into contact with such as door-knobs, sink handles, and other objects of everyday use that are used by dozens of people. Using a paper towel or one’s shirt sleeve to open a door will help keep the germs off one’s hands, or even carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer would help greatly. This winter, students should think about what they can do to stay healthy. After all, no one likes to be sick. Erin Jantz for the Editorial Board |
